Mariners Minor League Wrap-Up for May 11

This will be quick and you'll quickly see why.

A: Clinton had the day off.

A+: High Desert had the day off.

AA: West Tenn 4, Tennessee 3, 13 innings
WTN: 11-17... TEN: 14-13

Steven Hensley: 6 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, walk, 4 K (86 pitches, 59 strikes)
Steve Bray: 2 IP, 1 H, K (25-19)
Nick Hill: two outs, 1 H (11-7)
Anthony Varvaro: 3.1 IP, 3 walks, 2 K, balk (50-25)
Marwin Vega: 1 IP, 2 H, K (17-11)
Ezequiel Carrera: 2-6, R
Mel Stocker: 2-4, solo HR, 2 R, walk, K
Adam Moore: 2-6, double, 2 RBI
Matt Mangini: 2-6, RBI, K
Johan Limonta: 2-4, double, walk

Steven Hensley had an okay outing, which is as much as you can expect from a guy who got rushed to AA from the Midwest League to help fill in a tapped rotation. There's some promise to the 22 year old, who looked much better than a shaky 4 inning outing in his AA debut, but then again thanks to the many rain postponements, he had a full week between starts.

Groundballs: 7 (plus 1 bunt)
Flyballs: 7
Line Drives: 1
Pop Ups: 4
Walks: 1
Strikeouts: 4

The game was tied at 3 after 5 and stayed that way for 8 more innings until two wild pitches by Jeremy Papelbon (Jonathan Papelbon's brother) led to a lined RBI single from Matt Mangini to bring in the go-ahead run. Anthony Varvaro had thrown over three innings in relief, and Marwin Vega came in to shut this game down. He got two flyouts, then got everyone's heart racing with a lined single and a groundball single into LF to put runners at the corners, but he struck out James Adduci (279/354/314) to end the game.

AAA: Tacoma 6, Colorado Springs 2
TAC: 16-15... CSP: 18-12

Gaby Hernandez: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER (HR), walk, 5 K (98 pitches, 65 strikes)
Jared Wells: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 2 K (30-16)
Eric Hull: 2 IP, 3 H, 2 K (45-30)
Prentice Redman: 3-4, solo HR, solo HR
Chris Shelton: 1-4, double, R, 2 K
Chris Woodward: 3-3, 2 R
Jamie Burke: 2-4, double, 3 RBI, K

The Rainiers had all six of their runs by the end of the 3rd inning, and Gaby Hernandez didn't have to do much, which is good because he didn't.

Groundballs: 5
Flyballs: 6 (1 HR)
Line Drives: 4
Pop Ups: 1
Walks: 1
Strikeouts: 5

And neither did I! Much more action tomorrow!
