Kuo Hui Lo: 2-4, triple, R, 3 RBI, walk, K, SB
Alex Liddi: 1-5, RBI, K

With the wind blowing out to center, this had shootout written all over it.

Top 1: Ian Bladergroen doubles home Edilio Colina with one out, Carlos Peguero singles and Kuo Hui Lo triples both runners in to make it 3-0 Mavs.

Bottom 1: With two on and two out, Logan Forsythe (351/479/530 at the University of Arkansas in 2008) took Edward Paredes deep to tie the ballgame at 3-3.

Top 3: Bladergroen leads off the 3rd with a solo shot to RF to make it 4-3 Mavs.

Bottom 3: Errors by Alex Liddi, Paredes and Juan Diaz help bring in two runs to give Lake a 5-4 lead.

Bottom 5: Brad Chalk (275/354/340, 19 SB with Fort Wayne) leads off with a walk, steals 2nd and catcher Travis Scott throws YIKES AND AWAY to give Chalk 3rd on the attempt. Felix Carrasco (237/339/402 at Fort Wayne) singles to allow Chalk to easily score and make it 6-4.

Bottom 6: Natividad Dilone comes in with absolutely no control and walks four batters, helping Lake score two more runs to make it 8-4.

Top 7: Reliever Allen Harrington (57.2 IP, 3 HR, 10 BB, 53 K, 3.59 ERA in Fort Wayne) checks in and promptly wishes he hadn’t. Juan Diaz reaches on an error, Tyson Gillies reaches on a bunt, Edilio Colina lines a single and it’s 8-5 with runners on the corners. With one out, Carlos Peguero clears the bases with a triple and it 8-7. Kuo Hui Lo lines a single to right to bring in Peguero and TIE THE BALLGAME at 8. Joe Dunigan walked and both runners got to 2nd and 3rd with two out, but Alex Liddi grounded out to end the threat.

Top 9: With Peguero on 1st, Kuo Hui Lo reaches on a fielder’s choice for one out. Lo steals 2nd with two outs, Travis Scott walks and Alex Liddi drops a single into right to bring in Lo and give the Mavs a 9-8 lead!

Bottom 9: Phillipe Aumont makes his 3rd relief appearance and goes pop out, groundout, lineout to 2nd to finish off the Mavs’ comeback victory.

AA: West Tenn 6, Montgomery 5, 13 innings
WTN: 4-1… MTG: 1-4

Luis Peña: 2 IP, 1 H, 2 walks
Patrick Ryan: 2 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 3 walks, K
Justin Souza: 2 IP, 2 K
Nick Hill: 1 IP, 1 H, (1 R) 0 ER, 3 K
Aaron Cotter: 3 IP, 2 H, (intentional) walk
Mumba Rivera: 3 IP, 5 K
Ezequiel Carrera: 2-5, 2 R, walk, K, SB
Oswaldo Navarro: 1-6, double, R, RBI, K
Adam Moore: 2-4, double, 2 R, RBI, 2 walks, K
Greg Halman: 2-6, double, 3 run HR, 2 K
Javier Brito: 1-5, RBI, walk, 2 K
Erick Monzon: 2-5, 2 K

West Tenn blew ahead to a 5-0 lead early. Greg Halman went deep with a 3 run blast in the 1st, plus Oswaldo Navarro and Adam Moore each knocked in runs with doubles in the 3rd.

Luis Peña went two innings in what looked like some sort of rehab start. Patrick Ryan pitched a scoreless 3rd before the wheels came off in the 4th. After a leadoff double by Cesar Suarez (256/285/346 in the FSL) down the LF line, a stolen base and two walks, a 6-4 groundout cashed in a run, and Brandon Chaves (198/287/255 in AA Akron) cleared the bases with a double to left. Rhyne Hughes (268/356/448 in Montgomery) got a grounder into RF to score Chaves and cut the lead to 5-4.

That was Ryan’s final inning, and Justin Souza threw two hitless innings to lead a bullpen relay that matched Montgomery out for out… well, except Cesar Suarez doubled again in the 7th off Military Man Nick Hill to knock in a run and tie the ballgame. Suarez was on 3rd with two outs but Hill struck out John Matuila (282/343/357 in the FSL) to end the threat.

West Tenn had a chance in the top 9th to take the lead, putting runners on the corners with two outs, but Oswaldo Navarro popped out to end the threat. Montgomery had a chance to win it in the bottom 9th when JT Hall doubled off Aaron Cotter with two outs, but after an intentional pass, Cotter got a pop out to end the threat and send us to extras. Montgomery again had a chance to win in the bottom 10th when they moved runners to 2nd and 3rd with two out, but Cotter got a groundout to end that threat.

West Tenn finally got a breakthrough in the top 13th. Adam Moore snuck a grounder into RF with one out. Greg Halman bounced a ground rule double over the CF wall, and Jeff Dominguez walked to chase reliever Mike Wlodarczyk, whose surname was probably the product of a few alcoholic drinks many centuries ago. New reliever Brian Baker probably needed a few drinks after Javier Brito lined a single to right to cash in Adam Moore. Halman came around but got gunned down in a crazy 9-2-6-4 relay that had him howling he was safe, and home plate umpire Booter West, probably still pissed about being dubbed Booter, told Halman to go howl in the showers and ejected him.

To the bottom 13th, and Halman’s ejection led to a clowncar of defensive switches to fill his spot in RF (Brent Johnson moved to RF from LF, Johan Limonta moved from 1B to LF, and Halman’s replacement, Yamid Haad, played 1B). Mumba Rivera worked his 3rd inning without allowing a baserunner and that was that.

AAA: Tacoma 1, Fresno 0
TAC: 4-1… FRE: 1-4

Andrew Baldwin: 6 IP, 3 H, walk, 3 K, hit batter
Denny Stark: 2 IP, 1 H, 3 K, hit batter
Randy Messenger: 1 IP, walk, K
Prentice Redman: 1-4, solo HR, K
Rest of Rainiers lineup: 1-25, 2 walks, 11 K
